Hello,
I’m a bit confused about the Antivirus module. There is a “File Guard” and there are also manual scans (paths, full system scan, etc). What’s the difference between these two, and do I need both enabled?

They actually serve two very different purposes and complement each other:
File Guard
  • File Guard is an encryption tool.
    Its goal is to encrypt files so they can be safely transported on USB drives, sent by email or stored in cloud services like Drive.
  • When you protect a file with File Guard:
    • The content is encrypted and can only be opened again using GetOverX Shield (and the correct password/key).
    • If someone steals the USB or gains access to the file in the cloud, they won’t be able to read the data.
File Guard is about data confidentiality and secure transport, not about scanning for viruses.
On-demand scans (manual / scheduled)
  • On-demand scans are the classic antivirus scans:
    • You choose specific paths or run a full system scan.
    • The engine checks files for malware, trojans, PUPs, etc.
  • They’re ideal for:
    • Periodic deep checks of your system.
    • Scanning external drives (USB, external HDD).
    • Verifying folders you don’t use very often or that you suspect may be infected.
Do you need both?
  • Yes, but for different reasons:
    • Use on-demand scans to keep your system and external media clean from malware.
    • Use File Guard when you need to move or share sensitive files and want them to remain unreadable if they are intercepted or the device is lost.
In short:
  • On-demand scans = detect and remove threats.
  • File Guard = protect and encrypt your important data for safe transport.
