What is HIPS in GetOverX Shield and how does it protect my system?

Hi all,
I see a module called HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System) in GetOverX Shield. How does it work and do I really need to enable it if I already use the Antivirus? Cool

Hi and welcome!

HIPS stands for Host Intrusion Prevention System. While Antivirus focuses mainly on known threats and file-based detections, HIPS focuses on process behavior in real time. Here’s how it helps:
  • Real-time monitoring: HIPS watches running processes and looks for suspicious or anomalous behaviors (for example, unusual access patterns, unexpected process launches, etc.).
  • Blocking suspicious actions: If a process behaves like malware (even if it’s not yet in the signature database), HIPS can block or alert you immediately.
  • Advanced rules and logs: You can configure advanced rules to fine-tune what is considered suspicious, and all alerts are logged for later review
To use it:
  1. Go to the HIPS section.
  2. Click Activate to enable this protection layer.
Even if you already have Antivirus enabled, HIPS adds an extra behavior-based layer that is very useful against new or unknown threats.
